Visiting the Eiffel Tower:
If you plan to visit the Eiffel Tower, then you better be prepared to give up quite some time just in queueing. When I went into the queue, it took nearly 2 hours to get to the front just before getting on the lifts (elevators). This is in the height of summer without it being a cold or rainy day.
There is a separate line for people that are willing to take the stairs to the first or second floors, but if you have camera equipment or other heavy items, I would highly recommend using the lifts, it costs a little more, but worth it.
If you use the stairs, you can purchase a seperate ticket on the second floor if you want to go to the top of the tower. This is ONLY by using a lift, no stairs. Coming back down from level 2 or 1, you can use the stairs, whether you paid for the lifts or the stairs in the first place. Sometimes the queues for the lift down can be quite long, the lift is not as fast as you'd think, mainly because it does not go straight up, but up at an angle with the tower's legs.
